Can users edit their stories after publishing?

Question from Jim Gate:

“I made a sample in no time flat, but.. I wasn’t able to edit it when I realized after I published it that the sound was WAY too loud on my first image. Am I missing something or is editing just not yet possible after it’s been published?”

Thank Jim for your question.   As far, users can not edit their stories after their stories have been published, but we will add this editing feature in the future.  For now, please utilize the ‘Preview’ function to adjust your stories before sharing.

The best 2007 Web 2.0 Application for Education By Larry Ferlazzo

Larry Ferlazzo, a teacher and active blogger, list the best web 2.0 education application for 2007.  Showbeyond is ranked 4th on the list.  The following is his description:

“The fourth-ranked site is called Show Beyond.  This is similar to VoiceThread (number three) in allowing audio narration of slideshows, but doesn’t allow audio comments like VoiceThread.  You can also add music and text. It’s particularly good in District’s, like ours, that block streaming media (like VoiceThread).”

Showbeyond is a multimedia slidecast creator

Showbeyond can be more accurately reflected by using “slidecast creator” than simply “slideshow creator” since it is a well balance between online slideshow creation and online podcasting. Slidecast is an online multimedia format, which combines and synchronizes slideshow with podcast. This format can be very useful for online story telling and online presentations.

Release of New Player and Adding Sound File Uploading Feature

As a response to our users’ feedbacks, and also as part of continuing development, showbeyond will release new slidecast player and add sound file uploading feature tonight. In addition to the current “play” mode, new player includes “read” mode and large view feature. Also, users are able to upload sound file(s) to their slidecast stories as background sound.

Features and Benefits

The “read” mode allows viewers to view slidecast stories slide by slide at their preferred pace. This mode also allows viewers to easily skip slides back and forth. Audio narrations would remain as viewers switch to “read” mode. This mode greatly benefits viewers when slides contain significant text or other in-depth contents, which viewer like to closely study. Generally, this mode significantly increases usability of slidecasts.

Each story will continue to play at “play” mode when it is clicked, and viewers can switch to “read” mode by click “read” button. In addition to the “read” mode, new player also allow viewer popping up a large view at embedded site by clicking the large view button. Two new control buttons are located at left corner of player’s control panel.

New sound file uploading feature provide another option for users to insert sound to their slidecast stories. This feature will work as same way as current sound inserting method.

Impact on Current Users

The release of new player has no significant impact to current users and their stories. For stories which have been shared, viewers can enjoy the entire benefit of this new player. For stories which are currently in process, they will work under the “play” mode, but may lack the benefit of “read” mode. Users need to re-create their stories if they like to take the advantage of the “read” mode.
